2023 Rea Art Fair, Milan, Italy

at The Edit Gallery

he work on display at ReA! is an imagined landscape model composed of arranged wooden polyhedrons, informed by the natural and urban environments surrounding the artist in Cyprus, her birthplace and home. In contrast to the rigid shapes of the pieces - the pointed sculptures representing Turkish minarets - small-scale oil paintings on some of their surfaces depict rural scenes and organic details from the island in an abstract manner, suggesting a delicate equilibrium existing between seemingly disparate elements. The abstract maquette makes direct references to the country’s architecture motifs, paying homage to the shared history and shared spaces of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities, celebrating cultural exchange and igniting an open and engaging dialogue with regards to the bi-communal dimension of Cypriot society.
