Danae Patsalou (b. 1999) is an emerging Cypriot visual artist based in Nicosia, Cyprus. She holds a BA in Fine Arts from Falmouth University (Falmouth School of Art) and an MA in Arts and Cultural Management from King’s College London.
Working through drawing and painting, Patsalou explores culture, heritage, and landscape as a space for storytelling, inviting viewers to encounter familiar environments from new perspectives. Her quiet, intimate paintings sit at the threshold between abstraction and representation, examining how memory, cultural inheritance, and lived experience shape the relationship between self and place. They also reflect on the bi-communal reality of Cypriot society, drawing attention to the subtle histories and shared presences embedded in everyday life.
Increasingly, light has become central to her practice, understood as a physical force, a source of energy, and a spiritual presence. Her paintings return to the source of light and the shimmers it sets in motion: the glint of sun on water, the haze that softens the edge of a horizon. These fleeting vibrations make the landscape feel alive yet just out of reach, and within them she explores duality: light and shadow, visibility and disappearance, the material and the transcendent.
Patsalou has presented her work in group exhibitions and performances across Cyprus, Greece, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
