Danae Patsalou’s latest paintings, showcased in the ‘Collective Personal’ exhibition explore Cyprus’ rich and complex history. Danae’s work delves into old memories and moments in Cyprus, aiming to uncover collective historical moments through landscape painting. Inspired by photographs from the Swedish Cyprus Expedition (1927-1931), one painting portrays her grandmother’s town, Kythrea, while the other two explore different aspects of Cyprus’ past. The intentional blurriness and muted colors convey a sense of forgotten warmth and barely remembered memories, reflecting a time when the island was united. Danae’s art serves as a bridge, fostering understanding beyond geopolitical boundaries and contributing to the dialogue on the island’s history.
